September 27

It was the last points series race at Hobbytown, and some of the classes were still up for grabs. And while the day didn’t start off to promising, rain and lots of clouds, the racing went very well and the track was in great shape.

I would like to thank Mike, again, for getting out there early and cleaning up the puddles and then driving on the track. It was quite messy early on!

Photos will be posted over the next two days.

But the day ended badly. There was a Monster Truck event at the Soverign Center and the promoter had called to ask if there were any rc truck guys that would like to run before the event and during intermission. A bunch of the regular racers from Hobbytown were called and it looked good.

But there were a few problems. First, there was no dirt, it was the bare floor and to top it off, they had put down some kind of nasty sticky stuff that made it like an ice rink! That would lead to the problem during the intermission.

Before the event, the guys were out there running around, they had a plywood board they were using to jump, and the crowd really liked it.

Then the intermission. They went back out and began running again, the floor was still slick and they were sliding all over the place. While they were running there was a big fork lift they were using to move the wrecked cars. Ron’s buggy got loose and wound up getting under the tire of the fork lift. That would have been bad enough, but the guy who was directing the fork lift, let the driver roll over it again! He easily could have stopped the driver with one word, but he didn’t! Then to add insult to injury, he picks up the wrecked buggy and holds it up to show it to the crowd. This guy is an asshole, who ever he is.

Needless to say, that was all for the rc stuff, everyone packed up and left. I don’t know if there was another intermission after that, and I don’t care.

I asked around, first for the promoter, who pulled a disappearing act at that point. THen for anyone, I could talk to, you know what I got? A lot of blank stares, shoulder shrugs and a guy with uncontrollable facial twitches!

I have an offer of sorts to help out Ron recover from this. Any photos I have online are for sale. The profits from these will go to help Ron. I will have the details tomorrow.

So to everyone at the races, and at the Monster Truck event, thank you. And to Ron, my apologies and I hope we can make this right, or at the least help out as much as possible!
